TraceRoute is a TCP/IP utility that allows you to trace a network connection from one location to another in order to diagnose network connection issues. Follow the instructions for your operating system (OS).
ATTENTION: Reading MTR results is not intuitive and usually requires special training; however, you can avoid common pitfalls by following the advice provided in How to interpret MTR results.
Windows
- Perform one of the following steps:
- Windows XP: Click Start > Run. Type "cmd."
- Windows 7: Click Start and type "Run" in the Search programs and files field, then type "cmd."
- Windows 8: Click the Windows Explorer icon, then the File menu. From the File menu, click open command prompt.
- Windows 10: Click the Windows icon on the lower left, then type "cmd."
- At the command prompt, type "tracert" followed by a space and then the target IP address or domain name. For example: tracert destination.
- Click Enter.
- To copy the results to send to our Support Team:
- Right-click anywhere on the screen and click Select All.
- Open a text editor, and hit Ctrl-V to paste the results to a text editor of your choice.
- Right-click anywhere on the screen and click Select All.
Mac OSX
- From the toolbar, click Go and then select Utilities.
- Open the Network Utility.
- From the Network Utility window, click Traceroute.
- Type the destination IP address or domain name) and click Trace.
- Copy the results to send to the Nexcess Support Team by clicking inside the window and copy the results.
- Open a text editor and paste the results.
