This tutorial describes how to use the more.groupware project management software with your NEXCESS.NET web hosting account. NEXCESS.NET specializes in hosting more.groupware software and this tutorial is meant to help you quickly setup your site with our web hosting service.

more.groupware is open source, meaning that you can use and distribute it as you'd like as long as you don't change it.

For the sake of this tutorial we'll assume that you own the domain 'johnsmith.com' and are setting up more.groupware at http://johnsmith.com/moregroupware/.

Follow these steps to complete the tutorial:

  1. The first thing to do is to run through the SiteWorx MySQL tutorial and create a database for more.groupware to use to store the information it needs.

Create a database called 'moregroupware' with a user named 'moregroupware'. When you do this SiteWorx will prefix the database and user names with some text resembling your domain name.

With our example domain of 'johnsmith.com' the database name is 'johnsmit_moregroupware' and the username is the same 'johnsmit_moregroupware'.
  2. Download the latest version of more.groupware from the more.groupware website and unzip the contents of the zip file to your desktop using http://winzip.com. You should now have a folder on your desktop with all the files and folders you need to install and run more.groupware.
  3. Upload the 'moregroupware' folder to your web hosting account. You can do this using your FTP program. If you don't know how to do this, check out the FTP tutorial on our tutorials page. Once the more.groupware files are finished uploading, you need to change the permissions on the moregroupware folder so the script can access it. You can do this using the CHMOD command in your FTP program. If you don't know how to do this, check out the FTP tutorial on our tutorials page. CHMOD the moregroupware folder to 777.
  4. You can now access the web-based setup. For this example, you'll point to 'http://www.johnsmith.com/moregroupware'. Since you haven't setup moregroupware yet, you should get an error and the script will ask you to run the setup. Your screen should look like this:

    Main setup page

Click the 'run setup' link to continue. You should now be on the intro page to the installation. For this example, we'll leave the default values. Your screen should look like this:

    Intro installation page

Click the 'Install' button to continue. The script will now check your server and your php setup to see if there are any compatibility issues. You should see a warning about the 'display_errors'. Your screen should look like this:

    Checking server and php setup

Create a ticket on the support page asking for the 'display_errors' to be changed for your domain. Once they are changed, refresh this page and the error should go away. The 'register_globals' and 'magic_quotes_gpc' notes can be over looked. Your screen should look like this:

    Test warnings page

Click the 'Next' button to continue with the installation. You now need to fill out the database settings with the information from the database you created in step #1. For this example, we'll fill out the fields as follows:

    • Database Hostname / IP: localhost - Stays the same.
    • Database User: johnsmit_moregroupware Database Password: mypassword Name of Database: johsmit_moregroupware

The rest of the settings on this page can stay as the default values. Choose an admin password at the bottom. Your screen should look like this:

    Database settings

Click the 'Next' button to continue. You're now on step #4 of the installation. The script is now telling you that because you've chosen to authenticate users using MySQL that you can skip this step. Your screen should look like this:

    Authenticating users with MySQL

Click the 'Next' button to continue. On this page the modules will be installed. Your screen should look like this:

    Installtion modules

Click the 'Next' button to continue. Your installation is now complete. Using your FTP program, delete the 'install.errors' and 'install.log' files.

    Installation complete

You can now access the login page by pointing to 'http://www.johnsmith.com/moregroupware'. Enter 'admin' for the username and the password you chose during setup. If you're only going to be logging into more.groupware from your computer and you have a connection where your IP address never changes, you can check the 'Restrict access to this IP' checkbox. If you may want to access your more.groupware from somewhere else, however, don't check this box. For this example, we'll uncheck it. Your screen should look like this:

    Admin control panel login page

Click the 'Login' button to access the control panel. You can now manage and customize your more.groupware as you see fit. The more.groupware tutorial is now complete. Your screen should look like this:

    Main admin control panel page
