This tutorial will help you install Simple PHP Blog on your NEXCESS.NET shared or reseller hosting account. Although geared toward a shared/reseller account, this tutorial should also work with our dedicated hosting and Virtual Private Server solutions.
Simple PHP Blog SimplePHPBlog is a flat file (it does not require a relational database) blog that is easy to install and use. It uses PHP and simple files to provide a simple, easily installed blog application that will run on most hosting accounts. Simple PHP Blog is free to install and use (at time of writing).
All of our shared and reseller plans support Simple PHP Blog, but this may not be true of all hosting providers. If you're not a NEXCESS.NET client, then you can check the minimum requirements for Simple PHP Blog on their website.
For this demonstration, we'll assume you're using the domain 'johnsmith.com and are setting up Simple PHP Blog at http://www.johnsmith.com/SimplePHPBlog>
- Download the free Simple PHP Blog software and put it on your hosting account
Go to the Simple PHP Blog download page and download the most recent version of the software. Then unzip the file on your desktop, and use a FTP client to upload the folders you extracted to the directory you wish to install Simple PHP Blog in. In our case we will upload the files to SimplePHPBlog/ - Create directories for Simple PHP Blog to use
Once all the files are uploaded, you need to create 3 more directory's in the directory were you uploaded the installation files. They Don't have to have anything in them, just make them and name them as follows: config

- Run the online installation wizard
Once you have successfully created the folders, point your browser to http://johnsmith.com/SimplePHPBlog/ the installation wizard should start. Choose your preferred language, then click "Submit". The next screen will tell you that the three directories we just created will be needed to store data. Click "Begin Setup". The installation wizard will now confirm that the config, contents and images folders do in fact exist.

The next page allows the you to create the password.php file needed to log into the system securely. The default options should be fine. Fill out the boxes and click "Submit". At this point you need to open a new file in NotePad or another text editor. Paste the output that is displayed on the screen, and save it as password.php then upload the file to the config folder you created. Now a you will be asked to log in, Use the username and password you just created to log in. If this works, you will be congratulated and be directed to the blog Setup page.
