Upgrade Outline
All Magento upgrades are conducted first in a development staging environment separate from your live environment so compatibility can be verified. Below you will find a general outline of how the Nexcess Magento upgrades are performed.
- We create an isolated working replica of your production site (development site).
- Disable all third party extensions.
- Upgrade the development site to the requested version (any complications encountered during this step will be noted for upgrading the live site).
- Check site functionality and have you verify everything is functioning as intended.
- Reproduce upgrade steps on the live site.
Please note
- You must ensure theme and third party extension compatibility with target Magento release.
- We do not offer any development, theme modification, or custom code debugging services.
- The Magento upgrade service is only available Monday through Friday 7am Eastern time till 7pm Eastern time.
- Magento upgrades are done on a first come first served basis, a technician will be able to give you a rough time line as to when the upgrade will be completed.
- We only perform Magento upgrades on our SIP-plans. We do not support running or upgrading magento on our non magento SH plans. If you are currently under on of our SH plans and would like to upgrade your Magento store, please contact
Magento upgrade pricing
Magento Community - Base price is $250 per Magento minor release (i.e v1.4 -> v1.5) . The base price includes 2 hours of technician time. If the upgrade exceeds 2 hours you will be billed $85/hr for each additional hour used to upgrade your store.
Magento Professional - Base price is $500 per PE minor release (i.e 1.8 -> 1.9). The base price includes 4 hours of technician time. If the upgrade exceeds 4 hours you will be billed $85/hr for each additional hour used to upgrade your store.
Magento Enterprise - Base price is $750 per EE minor release (i.e 1.10 -> 1.11). The base price includes 4 hours of technician time. If the upgrade exceeds 4 hours you will be billed $85/hr for each additional hour used to upgrade your store.
Example
If you wanted to go from Magento CE version 1.3 to version 1.6 you would pay $250(1.3->1.4) + $250(1.4->1.5) + $250(1.5->1.6) for a total of $750. This is as long as the total time spent on the upgrade does not exceed 6 hours.
If you wanted to go from Magento PE version 1.8 to version 1.10 you would pay $500(1.8->1.9) + $500(1.9->1.10) for a total of $1000. This is as long as the total time spent on the upgrade does not exceed 8 hours.
If you wanted to go from Magento EE version 1.8 to version 1.10 you would pay $750(1.8->1.9) + $750(1.9->1.10) for a total of $1500. This is as long as the total time spent on the upgrade does not exceed 8 hours.

If for any reason we are unable to upgrade your Magento store, we simply will not charge you for the upgrade.*
