For a more general overview of SSL certificates, seWhat are SSL certificates?

Standard SSL: Definition

Standard SSL certificates are server security certificates that provide the lowest level of validation available from commercial certificate authorities.

Standard SSL: Requirements

In order to obtain a standard SSL certificate, you must prove you own the domain by responding to an email or phone call using the information in the WHOIS record of the domain.

Standard SSL: Acquisition

Standard SSL certificates can be issued by the Certificate Authority (CA), who will verify that a contact at the domain in question approves the certificate request. This approval is usually done by email, but can also be done via telephone or through alternate methods. However, your company does not have to be validated and no organization name is entered in the certificate. Refer to How to purchase a standard SSL certificate for more information.

Standard SSL: Benefits

The standard SSL certificate issuance can usually be automated. Standard SSL certificates are offered at prices much lower than premium or extended validation (EV) SSL certificates.

The following are some of the attributes provided by a standard SSL certificate:

  • Site Seal
  • Next Generation 2048-bit SSL
  • 256-bit encryption
  • Browser support
  • Mobile support
  • Free replacement
  • $10,000.00 (USD) Warranty
