our favorites from January 2023

There’s snow on the ground, too many people still crowding up gyms, and Easter candy is already on the shelves. The new year is here, and it’s kicked into high gear.

Let’s start the year off right with some great WordPress tweets.

Reminding us why WP is pretty awesome

WordPress Co-founder Mike Little is starting the WordPress 20th birthday a little early by reminiscing about the day it all began. We wouldn’t be here today without Mike and Matt!

Mike Little tweeting "20 years ago today, I commented on Matt's blog & kicked off the project. that became WordPress. Now WordPress powers over 43% of most popular domains. It is made by a worldwide community of thousands of contributors & millions of users. Wow!"

We couldn’t agree more with Marie Cachet about the usefulness of WordPress. We love all code, but making creativity possible for everyone is kind of a big deal.

Marie Cachet tweeting "I was coding when I was 14. I made a website from scratch and could do this with no problem. Should I have gotten mad when WordPress came along because it was now easy to make websites for everyone, even those without coding skills? No! It was a powerful creative tool!"

Automattic’s Rich Tabor is speaking our language. We ❤️open source, but more importantly we ❤️that our customers own their content. It’s theirs, after all.

Rich Tabor tweeting "WordPress empowers millions of people to share their ideas and creativity with the world, and actually own them. That's the power of #opensource, and I'm here for it."

Free agent Clayton Chambers can feel the revolution gaining momentum again.

Clayton Chambers tweeting "The return of blogging, independent, writing, and. the rise of newsletters feels like Tumblr and WordPress days all over again. And I love it. Not saying big media companies are bad, but people appreciate independent POVs to curate the noise.

We’ve got #opinions

WordPress pro Johnathon Williams knows the WP community isn’t DIVI-ded on what theme gives many of us headaches … but we hope everyone knows there are some great WP Meetups that focus on Divi!

Johnathon Williams tweeting "As a developer, which WordPress theme is most likely to make you pull your heart out and why is it Divi?"

WordPress committer and developer Jonny Harris makes a great suggestion for caching. We love Redis too, – especially our partners at Object Cache Pro.

Jonny Harris tweets "If using object caching in WordPress, I strongly recommend using Redis instead of memcache. Redis has a number of benefits over memcache and the object cache plugins are better supported and maintained.

Get that bread

Developer Igor Benić shows us that even the great and powerful AI knows the force is strong with WordPress.

Igor Benić tweeting "Even AI knows it. Can't deny it anymore. WordPress is the way, with a screengrab of ChatGPT answering a question about how to earn money as a freelancer. The top answer includes using WordPress.

Simply the best…

… bread-er than all the rest! Brad Williams shows us how Philly could twist our arm to get to a WordCamp there.

Brad Williams tweeting "It's a Philly thing. #WordPress" with a picture of the word "WordPress" spelled out in giant soft pretzels.

Startup founder Eric says it short and sweet. We’re right there with you on this.

FounderEric tweeting "20 years later and WordPress is still the best content management system on the internet."

There you have it. Check us out next month for February’s best tweets.
